"Your story is lacking because it has no rising action." "Your story doesn't have an underlying conflict, thus it's no good!" "Your story isn't good because the protagonist isn't identifiable with most people." Have you heard these lines before? I sure have, and I can tell you: people who spew this kind of garbage are completely and utterly artistically closed minded.
You will find most publications, whether they be print or digital, subscribe to these beliefs. They believe what their professors in their writing courses told them are the creative commandments, so to speak. They believe what they see the New York Times Best Seller's list authors writing is how all good fiction must be written. Every time they write it's a protagonist who's an every day kind of guy/gal that has a conflict they must triumph but first they must fail at least once until there's a sense of rising action to reach the breath taking climax! Can you say BAHHHHH?
Let me ask you: when did art become defined as being constrained to convention and social expectation? Art, in its truest form, rebels against all we expect and all we deem normality. This is why I'm creating Into the Void.
Into the Void will be a publication based on liberating the artist. We will celebrate stories and artwork where the artist has thrown structure and preconceived notions out the window. Sure, we'll accept stories that follow the standard formulas, but make them interesting. I want to be challenged. I want to finish a story and have it lingering in my brain for days and weeks afterward. I want originality.
Into the Void will be open to all genres and all art forms that can be published in the digital medium. I'll be looking for quality artwork as much as I'll be looking for quality stories and poems. Unlike most publications, you won't be rejected simply because your story or artwork didn't meet my preferences as an editor. However, as you may have noticed, I do lean towards the darker side of things, so art that does the same will have a stronger impact.
But alas! Before I can even begin to accept submissions I need other editors to pitch in on the effort. As of right now, you would be reading the stories and viewing the artwork and helping me edit for love of the art. If you would like to be an editor for Into the Void please fill out the form below. Please let me know if you have experience editing or what you think qualifies you to be an editor for Into the Void.
Thank you, and I look forward to officially launching Into the Void with your help very soon.
